“The Sound of the night”, by Eva Pereira, has received the award of Best Feature Film, followed by Best Screenplay, and Best Leading Actress with Emanuelle Araujo, tied to Leticia Spiller for “Unexplainable”

The 2024 Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival (LABRFF) concluded its successful run with a star-studded awards ceremony on November 7th at the Culver Theatre in Culver City. The festival, held from November 4th to 7th, showcased a diverse range of Brazilian cinema, from north to south, exploring poignant themes such as autism, domestic violence, child abuse, and social inequality.

The awards ceremony celebrated the exceptional talent and artistry of Brazilian filmmakers. Here are the night’s winners:

  • Best Art Director: Fabiola Bonofiglio and Massimo Santomarco (“Estomago II, The Cookfather”)
  • Best Costume Designer: Cao Albuquerque and Diana Leste (Great Sertão)
  • Best Soundtrack: Julio César JC, Duca Duarte, Martins, and Vítor Novello (Infinimundo)
  • Best Original Score: Anselmo Mancini, for “Between Root and Wings”
  • Best Editing: Fabio Jordão (Great Sertão)
  • Best Screenwriter: Eva Pereira (“The Sound of The Night”)
  • Best Supporting Actor: Rodrigo Lombardi (Great Sertão)
  • Best Supporting Actress: Rejane Faria (“Nobody Leaves Alive”)
  • Best Lead Actor: Eriberto Leao (“Unexplainable”)
  • Best Lead Actress: Leticia Spiller (“Unexplainable”) and Emanuelle Araujo (“The Sound of The Night”)

A Night of Triumph and Recognition

The night was filled with emotional speeches and heartfelt thanks. Best Lead Actress, Leticia Spiller, for her work in “Unexplainable”, dedicated her award to the film's true family and expressed her hope that the film would touch hearts. 

Fellow Best Lead Actress Emanuelle Araujo highlighted the importance of the film “The Sound of The Night,” which also won Best Screenplay and Best Feature Film. She praised the courage of the screenwriter, Eva Pereira, and emphasized the power of Brazilian cinema to shed light on important social issues.

Best Lead Actor Eriberto Leao expressed his gratitude for the award from Brazil, stating, “Inexplicable tells a true story... And that drama had a happy ending! To relive that through the movies, with a talented and loving team around us, is a privilege.”

The Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival concluded on a high note, celebrating the richness and diversity of Brazilian cinema. The festival organizers extend their sincere gratitude to the filmmakers, the jury, the audience, and all who contributed to the success of this year’s event.

Winners received a check prize offered by Dr. Felipe Alexandre from ALFA (Alexandre Law Firm & Associates), high-end watches by Ritmo Mundo, along with other prizes by Naymovie, Love & Silver, and others.

Founded in 2008 by the film producer Meire Fernandes and the journalist Nazareno Paulo, the LABRFF filled a gap in the Mecca of cinema, becoming a showcase for Brazilian productions in Hollywood.
