Given Oliver Stone's thirst for approaching history with a journalist's rather than merely a director's eye, it wasn't entirely inconceivable that World Trade Center world resemble something completely different than what it turned out to be. But Stone plays it surprisingly straight, recounting the true stories of New York City cops John McLoughlin (Nicolas Cage) and Will Jimeno (Michael Peña) and the families and fellow officers whose lives were held in limbo while they lay trapped in the rubble of the World Trade Center.

Those looking for a dramatically complex film won't find it in Center , which toes a line and walks it all the way to the credits. But the film's gift of imagery, combined with a trove of terrific performances, are more than enough to do this story justice. Maria Bello, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dominick Pezzulo and Michael Shannon, among others, also star.
