The commercials made Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny look like an unfunny, headache-inducing train wreck that only fans of the band could possibly tolerate. Sure enough, Destiny is a mess – a rock opera-slash-not-quite biopic full of bad wigs, pentagrams, power knee-slides, rock-offs, Satan and rock-offs with Satan.

But it's a purposeful, defiant, celebratory mess – a film so self-aware of its own absurdity, it's actually pretty funny. Add this one to the long list of films that deserve (and just may receive) a happier afterlife on the small screen.

Extras: Tenacious D commentary, director commentary, deleted/extended scenes, alternate ending, outtakes, three behind-the-scenes features, “jump to song” feature and music video.

Grade: B+
