Token Entry was one of the first hardcore bands to come out of NYC back in the ’80s. This is a re-issue of the band’s last two albums, Jaybird and The Weight of the World.

Both albums were produced by former Bad Brains guitarist, Dr. Know. His influence is felt as they took a little rock, a little funk and a lot punk to create a fine mix.

Jaybird is a bit more hardcore and garage sounding. Weight of the World is a bit smoother, and dare I say, happier. Instead of a hardcore feel, Weight is full of songs that are a bit more commercial sounding, for the early ’90s – perhaps a little reminiscent of some Faith No More or Red Hot Chili Peppers.

If you are nostalgic for ’80s, early NYC hardcore and funk, this might be the CD for you. If you are under the age of 30, you might want to skip it altogether.

Grade: C (but maybe A back in 1988)

The Re-Issues is currently available.
