Normally compilation CDs have a recognizable theme or some other kind of basis as to why a particular group of songs were collected. I found Road to Nowhere to be a compilation without a cause. The album unites a group of stoner rock indie artists, including Fu Manchu, Burning Brides, Leech and a debut track from the Freeks, for no apparent reason.

The common thread amongst all songs and bands here are repetitive head-banging noise and carbon copy vocals. Brant Bjork’s “The Native Tongue” is the odd song out of the group, solemn and slow, playing like a tribal chant amongst chaos.

Like a work of abstract art, you’ll either consider this CD a stroke of genius or a colorful mess. For me, this road ended up going nowhere.
