Comics and movies have long shared a crossover relationship, but in recent years this relationship has been elevated from a mere marketing device to a new form of total multimedia entertainment experience. The latest entry in this trend, now in hardcover, is Se7en.

Cleverly laid out as the notebook of the film’s infamous serial killer, John Doe, the book gives a first-person account of the killings, rendering Doe as a vigilante figure a la the Punisher. The stories delve into the back-stories of the victims (their sins) as well as exploring Doe’s origins.

The collection features the work of numerous writers and artists whose varying styles make for a mixed bag. But on the whole, the film’s legion of fans should be thoroughly entertained.
