Nilaja Sun plays all the characters in this one-woman show: a wizened janitor, a skittish Asian schoolteacher, an asthmatic and so on. The character of Nilaja Sun is employed by a Bronx public school to teach the kids to act.

In six weeks, the 10th graders will perform “Our Country’s Good,” a play about 18th-century Australian convicts who also produce a play. Naturally, complications ensue. Managing the unruly youths is a Sisyphean task, but for the hyperkinetic actor nothing is impossible.

Sun blazes with intensity, her frenetic tour-de-force performance is dazzling. She flits between characters at lightning speed.

“No Child…” is a fun-house mirror look into the fractured inner city school system – amusing and enlightening.
