Poor Gwyneth Paltrow, always doing a favor for someone. First it was her father’s film, Duets. Now it’s her brother’s film, The Good Night.

Telling the story of Gary Sheller (Martin Freeman), a man so unhappy in his daily life that he looks to his dreams for fulfillment. Also along for the ride, and probably recruited against their will, Danny DeVito and Penélope Cruz look lost in their roles as the lucid dream expert and the literal “girl of Gary’s dreams.”

The Good Night’s attempts at insight and illumination strike me as immature. Let’s just hope Gwyneth’s husband isn’t looking to direct anytime soon.
