Manousos starts off Common Thread with a big sounding mid-tempo rocker that sounds like something Aerosmith would have in its modern-day repertoire. The song builds in intensity and only gets to the hook at the very end, a technique that doesn’t always work, but in this case leaves the listener counting the nanoseconds until the next track starts.

A lot of the music here is on the country side of rock, and Manousos dives completely into the haystack for a cover of Merle Haggard’s tear-jerker, “Silver Wings.” Manousos has a quirk to his voice that makes him sound like he could go wacko without warning, not unlike the vocal bent that John Hiatt often displays.
