A barren woman (Annette Reid) and her playwright husband (Daniel Hagen) decide to produce a play about their inability to conceive in Jerry Sroka’s “In the Wings.”

The show never really takes off. Late in the play, an actor tells the writer that his character doesn’t have an arc. It’s a valid criticism, because none of the characters grow or change in a significant way. They barely even rise above stereotype: the dumb blonde (Liz Sroka), the cocky good-looking guy (Will Schaub).

Still, there are some great performances. Ironically, Sroka is one of the best actors; his comic timing is impeccable. His real-life wife and daughter (Mariette Hartely and Liz Sroka) sparkle in their roles. If only Sroka had written something better for them.
