Liston is a Christian artist, and his love for God is very overt on
No Other Name. He’s not going to hide his spirituality with vague lyrics. He deals in blue-eyed soul with a bit of a southern underpinning; “Everything I Need” sounds like something from a Gregg Allman solo album, while other tunes like “Trust in the Lord” and “No Other God Like Mine” work with a poppy funk groove that recalls the work of Boz Scaggs. Liston is a fine guitarist, too, but he never gets so flashy as to detract from his main objective – spreading the gospel.
