With his eighth album, Dan Bejar, of New Pornographers fame, visits the Troubadour as Destroyer, which started as a solo project 12 years ago. On Trouble in Dreams, their latest release, Bejar is sounding ever more comfortable with a full band sound, and this translates well in his live performance.

Even with a sold-out show, Destroyer was able to engage the audience and make it feel very personal. The set was as relaxing as it was invigorating. Bejar channeled his vocals with energy, while also remaining delicate and poignant.

As so often happens, live performances don’t hold true to captured sounds created in a recording studio. But in this case, Bejar and company performed and really did bring trouble. Trouble in Dreams, that is.
