This is not one of those movies that’s so bad it’s good. It’s just bad.

Even D-horror movie starlet Sarah Roemer (Disturbia, The Grudge 2) couldn’t save me from Asylum’s predictability and grotesque overcompensation for unoriginality and boredom with unnecessary bloodbath.

Madison (Roemer) comes from a mentally unstable family and is entering her freshman year in the same dorm that her brother committed suicide in. See keywords: mental asylum, mutilating doctor, midriff baring T-shirts, shower scene and an average of a death every 10 minutes. The dorm used to be an experimental asylum for kids headed by a deranged doctor.

Lacking all the good old-fashioned restraint of actually terrifying or suspenseful horror movies, Asylum shows you all; from eyes gouged out, to tongues bit off, to a scalp split in half ninja style. I love a gore-fest as much as the next person, but you’re better off watching a live birth if you’re looking for horror.

Asylum is currently available.
