Dirty Money, more widely known as Un Flic, is a French gangster film by the king of French gangster films, Jean-Pierre Melville. Long before Michael Mann painted the underworld in cool, steel blues, Melville used the palette to great effect.

The plot, which is a bit muddled, concerns a gang of heist men led by Richard Crenna and the cop that is hunting them (Alain Delon). Meanwhile, Delon is carrying on an affair with the Crenna’s girlfriend (Catherine Deneuve).

It’s far from Melville’s best, but it’s still a solid, atmospheric gangster flick.
