As if passing the torch of child stardom from one generation to the next, Jodie Foster anoints Abigail Breslin with a wary nod of encouragement in the family film Nim’s Island. A far cry from Taxi Driver, Foster’s own childhood film, Nim’s Island hews closer to a childhood full of imagination and wonder rather than cynicism and hard earned wisdom.

Breslin plays Nim Rusoe, a young girl accidentally left alone on a tropical island and desperately looking for her lost father. Foster plays Alexandra Rover, a reclusive writer Nim enlists for help on her quest. The chemistry between the two actresses pulls along a sometimes-clunky script.
