Based on Jack Heifner’s sensational off-Broadway play of the same name, “Vanities” follows the lives of three women, from high school in the ’60s to life in the ’80s. This version not only gives voice to the characters, but music and verse as well.

Lauren Kennedy (“Spamalot,” “Sunset Boulevard”) delivers a brilliant performance, and Anneliese van der Pol (“Beauty and the Beast,” “That’s So Raven”) belts out impressive vocals. As always, Pasadena Playhouse brings top-notch talent and production values.

The only problem is that the story is a little flat. There’s no conflict. “Vanities” is a bouncy, happy little romp, but it’s just a little boring.
