Earlier this year, the Heavy, a retro-soul revival band (with a few twists) from Noid, England, released Great Vengeance and Furious Fire, their debut album, to U.S. audiences. The best tracks off the flawed album, “That Kind of Man” and “Colleen,” were played live last Thursday, as the fourpiece grouped with the always good Pop Levi and the Gray Kid (who, as a living, breathing axis point between Beck, the Beastie Boys, the Rat Pack, sticky southern crunk and Jamie Kennedy from Malibu’s Most Wanted, is a surefire crowd-pleaser) for an interesting night of music at the Echo.
