When I listen to Kanye West’s newest, I’m reminded of T.I.’s “Live your Life” featuring Rihanna. Now the connection between these two pieces isn’t on a musical level, but more so on a message level. West is “living” HIS life.

808s & Heartbreak, though very different from his prior works (College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation), seems so fitting. The production, the lyrics and the concept all seem as if he’s been waiting to embrace the world with his take on life.

West takes a break from the heavy, soulful sampled tracks to bring out his more melodic musical side. The album features Young Jeezy on “Amazing” and Lil’ Wayne on “See You in My Nightmares.”

The only thing keeping 808s from being a complete smash are the spots of WTF moments in “Street lights” and “Love Lockdown.”
