Margaret Atwood provides the introduction to this latest volume culling interviews from the great literary magazine, which date from 1955 to 2007. Sit down with legendary writers as they discuss their work and various approaches to writing in fascinatingly intimate conversation.

The loose feel to the interviews also allows the luminaries’ personalities to shine through. Evelyn Waugh speaks of his dislike for Faulkner from his bed, while John Cheever admits to being addicted to cutting down trees with a chainsaw.

Other interviewees include: Ralph Ellison, Norman Mailer, Jean Rhys, Raymond Carver, Salman Rushdie, Martin Amis and Joyce Carol Oates.
