Center Theatre Group and Deaf West Theatre’s joint production offers a unique spin. The show is performed in both voice and American Sign Language. The lead is played by two actors; one in ASL (Tyrone Giordano) and one in voice (Michael Arden).

“Pippin” sends a mixed message: One should appreciate a simple life, but it’s told with magic and spectacle. It’s difficult to be charmed by a musical when its message is work hard, find love and stop trying so hard to be special.

The reason to see this production would be for the cast’s incredible vocal talents. The Lead Player (Ty Taylor), the narrator of the tale, belts out the opening number. His enthusiasm is electric, but it is Arden that steals the show.
