After the success of the first “Your Art Opening” event, BoredLA and SCribes-Free Read have decided to have another one on March 7. Stop by the Ragazzi Room to see the freshest of the fresh artwork by your peers, including painting, photography, live art by Ben Jay and T-shirts and crafts by Ben Oprstu.

This time around there’s a theme, “Underwater is Where the Action Is,” so expect a lot of serene, psychedelic, profound stuff. There will also be tons of live music to keep you entertained, including Alex Pfender of Oregon, Alex Alkana of Seal Beach, Aijia Guttman of Hollywood, Chris Olson of Burbank, Shannon Inouye of Burbank and DJ iSHOWMYSELF, who currently has a residency at Temporary Spaces.

BoredLA is a Web site run by local students who try to make sure you know what’s going on in Los Angeles before it happens (and ideally what’s cheap, fun and interesting). When you’re bored, you should be able to hit up the site and find some inspiration, whether it’s a local event, restaurant, craft idea or merely a rant or rave about our city.

SCribes is a USC group that meets weekly to free read – poems, essays, short stories, whatever. It’s all about sharing your work and appreciating that of others.

Lorna Alkana, creative writing student, founder of SCribes, and member of the BoredLA team, is the brainchild behind “Your Art Opening,” combining the artistic forces of BoredLA and SCribes to create a grassroots art show. The event is about making the unknown artist known, so come and enjoy some coffee and treats from the Ragazzi Room, go next door for some wine and tapas deals at Bacaro L.A., be exposed to some killer art and come back next time with your own submissions!

Ragazzi Room is located at 2316 S. Union Ave, Los Angeles. For more information, visit boredla.com.
