Although “Big, the Musical” didn’t make it, well, “big” on Broadway, the West Coast Ensemble puts forth a valiant effort and succeeds in delighting the audience.

The classic piano sequence at FAO Schwarz, with a dance duet by Toy company CEO, MacMillan (Larry Lederman), and Josh Baskin (Will Collyer, sporting an uncanny likeness in looks and persona to a young Tom Hanks), is recreated and is once magical and memorable – the definite scene stealer of the show.

With touches of “Bye Bye Birdie” and High School Musical, the music and lyrics of Broadway greats David Shire and Richard Maltby, Jr. are catchy and creative. “Big” offers good, clean fun.
