There is really just one word for Radio Wars: wow. This Australian band’s been hiding out in the UK since 2006, and it’s really a shame that they’ve had such little exposure in the United States.
With Radio Wars, Howling Bells has created a beautifully well-constructed album with silky vocals and dreamy indie rock. It’s sort of if like the Stills married Regina Spektor.
Radio Wars is an impressive piece of work. From the slightly more electro “Treasure Hunt” to the ethereal “How Long,” Howling Bells deliver great hooks and catchy beats that will keep you listening from the beginning to the end. This is very likely the best new indie rock album of 2009.
