A Döner kebab can be likened to shawarma or gyros. Traditionally made from lamb, the meat is sliced off to order and served with different ingredients depending on the region of Europe you are ordering from.

Spitz, the American home of the Döner kebab, has not only created a delicious sandwich for us to enjoy, but at a great price for students. In fact, Spitz caters to the college community by offering an all-day, every-day 10 percent discount on their Döner sandwiches.

The Classic Döner, with homemade lamb and beef, is served with fresh green peppers, cucumbers and onions. It’s best enjoyed on the artisan Focaccia that holds up well with tzatziki and chili sauce.

There’s also a lavash (wrap) version if you prefer to lighten up on the carbs. Even lighter, you can order a Chicken Döner, or Vég with hummus, feta, olives and all the fixins. Spitz also makes a Falafelite, with the texture exactly how a falafel should be – crunchy on the outside with a fluffy interior.

The Döner Meal is your practical option, which includes a choice of side and a fountain drink. Equal portions of sweet potato and seasoned fries are a popular pick. The sandwiches come with a zesty feta sauce that is great for dipping!

The “Not-Unhappy Hour” at the Eagle Rock location features $1 Pita Strips and Hummus, along with palate pleasing $2 gelatos and sorbettos. The reason for the fun name is the time: Monday through Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. If you’re at the Little Tokyo location, add $3 draft beer and $4 sangria to the list, but there’s no gelato, Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Enjoy your libations on your summer vacation!

In another act of giving back to the student communities, if your club, frat or sorority hosts a fundraiser, Spitz will give you 15 percent of the proceeds from their own pocket!

Spitz has a second location in Eagle Rock, 256 Colorado Blvd., Los Angeles. For more information, call (213) 613-0101 for Little Tokyo and (323) 257-5600 for Eagle Rock or visit eatatspitz.com.
