Autumn Hearts: A New Beginning would be a better film if it knew how to get out of its own way. Certain glaring miscalculations, the title for example, drag down the production. Still, with a cast composed partially of Susan Sarandon, Christopher Plummer, Gabriel Byrne and Max von Sydow, Autumn Hearts provides many watchable moments.

A sort of star-crossed lovers plot mixed with post-WWII holocaust trauma, the film does have its share of earned longing. It’s in the redemption that the movie loses its way and turns to mush.
