Like “The Hills,” “Baldwin Hills” showcases rich, gorgeous young adults as they date, gossip, shop and party. Unlike “The Hills,” which presents an extremely whitewashed version of Los Angeles, “Baldwin Hills” centers on the black population.
Whether by accident or design, the African-American rich and would-be famous, although nearly as shallow as their Hollywood counterparts, still manage to discuss meatier topics like class and race. One of the most compelling “characters” is Staci, a less wealthy young woman struggling to fit in with the other, more “bourgie” girls.
Grade: A Baldwin Hills: The Complete First Season is currently available.
