Untitled Document With a name like Daniel Peacock, you just know the man is destined to become an ornithologist or an artist. And, actually, Peacock has become a bit of both. Bang and a Boom at La Luz De Jesus Gallery, the preeminent outsider art gallery space, presents a collection of the artist’s carnivalesque work, which graced the CD, concert poster and movie trailer for KCRW’s Sounds Eclectic 3. It makes sense, as the artist has an eclectic artistic background, amalgamating Fellini, Dr. Seuss and those almost archetypal 1930’s animations.

"Most of these pieces have no category in which to fall, other than the imagination of Daniel Peacock," says the curator.

If categorization is necessary, many of his pieces seem to be Jean Miro painting 1930’s circus posters. Aviary 4, for instance (what did I tell you about the ornithology?) finds a google of feathered friends not found in any birdhouse on this planet. Goofus 2, a tickling work, presents a wide eyed goof/doofus (hence, goofus) on a large red circle with the words "No. 33" printed on it as if it were one part of a collection of human eccentrics. Peacock’s work is a zoo and La Luz is the ideal cage.
