As we follow the lives of 2Pac and his brother Bily while they maintain control of the Haitian slum of Cité Soleil and then negotiate with President Aristide during his tumultuous crack down in 2004, we’re also exposed to the reality of what happens when one rebel imposes his “stereotypical” hip-hop attitude on Haitian life.
Ghosts of Cité Soleil is what happens when hip-hop goes wrong. To Danish filmmaker Asger Leth’s credit, the film is extremely revealing while also being insanely scary and fascinating.
