Great commentary track! Nicholas Meyer invokes Pauline Kael, Citizen Kane, Stravinsky, Francis Fukuyama’s The End of History … and that’s in the first five minutes.

The conversation going on over the film could have been between Michael Ondaatje and Walter Murch, the two screenwriters are so engaging and well-read. (A dismal point: Meyer wonders if young viewers will get that the collapse of the Klingon Empire is a metaphor for the end of the Soviet Union. One passes from “Oh, c’mon…” to “Oh … oh no. He’s right.”)
