Three hipsters are busted and recruited to work undercover for the police to infiltrate the criminal element of the counter culture in “The Mod Squad,” which premiered in 1968. Michael Cole, Clarence Williams III and Peggy Lipton are the Mods.

Sitars, go-go boots and zoom ins abound, but the show is a little like the kid who keeps professing how cool he is, which by definition is not cool. The show attempted to cash in on the exploding counter culture while dishing out morality tales and promoting the ultimate need to answer to the Man. But it’s a fun time capsule.
