How does one critique a show created solely to sell action figures? But what’s more mind-boggling about “Transformers” is how many variations the show has managed since the original debuted back in 1984.

“Cybertron” reboots the original series by mixing traditional anime with flashy CGI. But the creators do little to make any more sense out of the convoluted premise.

The Autobots’ home planet is being sucked into a blackhole. They come to Earth because some other older robot told them to find some planet key things, but the Decepticons want the key things too and – ah, who cares, they’re robots that turn into cars!

Apparently the show’s creators realize the nonsense of the show because it spends most of its time with streaky CG shots of the robots transforming. Anyone looking for a modern update on his or her nostalgia is likely to be disappointed. Kids should enjoy it, if only for the action figures.
