UCLA professor Patrick Harran is scheduled to be arraigned today because of a research assistant's death in 2008 in what appears to be an act of negligence on his behalf and that of the UC Regents. Both Harran and the UC Regents are facing three counts of willfully violating occupational health and safety standards. Harran could serve four and a half years in prison while the regents of the University of California might pay $4.5 million in fines, according to prosecutors.
