When the lights dimmed, the packed club was treated to an amusing, musically entertaining and sometimes non-sequitur video intro to the band; it included a vintage 7-Eleven slurpee ad, a public service spot from the ’80s warning kids not to sit too close to the TV so as not to get lazy eyes, and a couple of stylishly executed Tally Hall music videos.

This was followed by a flawless musical set including the catchy song “The Bidding,” calypso-style “Banana Man,” a highly respectable cover of “Free Bird” and an encore that entailed convincing the entire Troubadour house to sit down on the ground and keep it quiet while the band walked off stage and sat in the middle of their fans to play a few acoustic numbers.
