In the review of Africa Unite two weeks ago, I mentioned how the appearance of many Marleys was the highlight. In Ziggy Marley: Love Is My Religion it’s all Ziggy – all the time. And that’s great, too.

Capturing his Los Angeles “Love Is My Religion” tour stop in December 2006 at the Avalon, this DVD presents nearly two hours of live footage. Young Marley sings his solo joints from the Grammy©-winning album, Love Is My Religion, Melody Maker hits and of course, covers of his father’s classics.

Alongside Stephen, I think Ziggy is the closest sounding to Bob, and listening to him deliver renditions from his dad’s catalogue – “Concrete Jungle,” “Jammin’,” “No More Trouble,” “Is This Love” – is both soothing and inspiring. To see Ziggy hop around stage reggae-style and sway his hips is truly reminiscent of the elder Marley.

Take this DVD exactly for what it is. I have to admit a bias: I named my bird Ziggy.

Extras: “Love Is My Religion” video and “Making of,” behind the scenes interviews and “Into the Groove” video.
