Portland, Ore.’s the Prids treated a diminutive crowd at Part Time Punks to the kind of show that puts a lot of other indie rock outfits to shame. Delivering the goods with an all too brief set of moody rock, vaguely reminiscent of the days when bands like Jesus and Mary Chain and the Auteurs dominated the college radio airwaves, the Prids rocked the Echo’s tiny stage as if they were playing a packed theater.

The frenetic energy between singer-guitarist David Fredrickson and singer-bassist Mistina Keith increased in intensity with each well-crafted number. The Prids, tight and passionate in their execution of set highlights like “Before We Are” and “Like Hearts,” prove that their recordings, fine as they are, barely do justice to the power that they present in the live arena.

I have a feeling that they’ll be playing to a far larger crowd in the future. Those of us at the Echo can say we remember when...
