In support of their new album, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold, Atmosphere showed the city of Lost Angels the way to rock a true hip-hop show. Call it indie hip-hop, call it underground, call it alternative emo-rap, but Slug and his DJ Ant proved once again that no one can ever call them wack.

A true storyteller known for his bluntness and quotable life lesson one-liners, Slug is a rare breed: a real deal MC who tells it like it is.

Most of the beats and rhymes showcased onstage harkened back to the ’90s era, just before rap music became more R&B-flavored, as De La Soul once stated, rap and bullshit.

Slug has a little daughter to write some rhymes about in new classics like “Shoulda Known” and “In Her Music Box.”

The guys have literally gone from boys to men – who still know how to throw a party. One that I’m glad I was a part of.
