Desperately Seeking Paul McCartney

(MVD)

This movie could have been good. It could have been humorous and heartfelt. But it’s none of these things.

This is the story of a woman, Ruth Anson, who was a reporter for ABC in the ’60s and at one point briefly encountered Paul McCartney at a press conference asking him the question, “Do you have any plans to marry soon?” to which McCartney replied, “Only if you’ll marry me now.”

Forty years later, she’s on a mission to reconnect with him in order to find out what made him give her that answer. She teams up with a group of producers, directors and PAs to create a “reality show” about her journey.

They begin to find that her story is not interesting and decide that the only route to take with this project is to embarrass her on film. This mockumentary is nothing but scenes that are not absurd enough to be funny à la This Is Spinal Tap, yet not realistic enough to be believable.
