Greg Laswell started off his set with a few jokes to warm up the audience, mostly poking fun at himself and his lack of preparation for the night. But once the music started, it was clear that he was ready to go.

The songs were soft and thoughtful, then turned to fun. His lyrics seemed to connect with everyone in the room on one song or another. Being a local from Los Angeles he was guaranteed a big turn out, but this crowd seemed to know every song of his; a rarity at any show.

As the night went on, his tunes of love and life kept those standing for hours happy and seemed to lull those sitting into a world of their own. Like a young Roy Orbison, this man has potential to do great things. He just needs a little more time to get the word out to the rest of the world.

Pick up one of his CDs and catch the show, but make sure that you get your tickets early, so you’re not left in the cold.
