If you thought Season 1 of HBO’s hit comedy "Girls" was cringe-worthy, then you haven’t yet been graced with the humor and awkwardness that is Season 2.

In one of the season’s early episodes, after snorting cocaine with her gay ex-boyfriend topless in a club, Hannah (Lena Dunham) proclaims, “It’s Wednesday night, and I’m alive!” basically summing up the entirety of the season. Besides this crazy scene, much of "Girls" is exploring the painfully ordinary activities of female life.

"Girls": The Complete Second Season on DVD is a encore showing of Season 1, with four women in their twenties struggling to survive everyday life. It is obvious that star, creator and writer, Dunham, has no filter when deciding what topics to cover. Audiences flinch, as Hannah is naked 50 percent of the time and the women struggle through bladder infections, cheating and crazy relatives. After the entirety of the two seasons so far, it is still apparent that the women's minds are one of the most confusing challenges mankind will ever face.

Special features of the Season 2 DVD include audio commentaries for each episode and a segment entitled “The guys of Girls,” where Dunham sits down with four of the male supporting characters to discuss what it’s like to have longevity on such an estrogen-fueled show. Unfortunately, this segment proves just why the show is called "Girls" not "Guys," seeing as all the men are very dull.

While funny and entertaining, Season 2 of "Girls" feels a little lack luster; it's missing some of its freshness. Maybe some of the appeal of the shocking awkwardness from Season 1 has worn off, but the thought of sitting down and watching the show weekly does not feel realistic. It was fun to watch as a cohesive unit, which makes the complete DVD collection valuable, yet it leaves me wondering just how many more seasons people will rush to watch these women doing normal things average people do every day (but maybe with less dramatic results).

By being a show that sparkles despite being overwhelmingly unglamorous, "Girls" has made all of us normal people in the world feel like we are not the only ones fighting whatever battle we currently face, as well as helpfully reminding us that our lives could be much worse.

Perfect for viewing after a bad day or when you feel like you need the relief of a good cry,"Girls": The Complete Second Season DVD collection releases Tuesday, Aug. 13.
