Living in L.A., this film seems to be every filmmaker’s dream. Directors Shainee Gabel and Kristin Hahn quit their Hollywood jobs and hit the road, asking people from all walks of life what it means to be American.

The highlights are interviews with Robert Redford, Willie Nelson, the late Hunter S. Thompson, George McGovern, Studs Terkel and many others. The lowlights are that you spend a little more time with these two women than you’d like (though their accomplishment is impressive).

Overall, Anthem makes you think seriously about America, freedom and how we should be taking better care of this country, politically and environmentally, if we’d like it – and us – to stick around.
