Another screwball great that almost reaches the heights of Claudette Colbert’s Oscar©-winning effort It Happened One Night, Midnight provides plenty of comedy and romance. Set in Paris and written by a young Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder, Midnight follows a young and penniless Colbert as she struggles to get back on her feet following an unfortunate incident in Monte Carlo.

Along with a delightful John Barrymore and a dashing Don Ameche, Colbert poses as a Hungarian countess, duping a few socialites along the way. Another picture that plays with class and snobbery, Midnight, directed by Mitchell Leisen, could be remade today and still feel fresh.
