The first film of Clint Eastwood’s daughter, Alison Eastwood, Rails & Ties attempts an emotional honesty and sense of realism captured in some of her father’s films, like Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby.

The script, by Micky Levy, follows the aftermath of a gruesome train accident that leaves one woman dead. Left to pick up the pieces, a married couple and a young boy struggle to make sense of the life they have been left with.

Kevin Bacon turns in a nice performance as a man whose feelings have been bottled up for years, but Marcia Gay Harden, as his wife, hams it up a bit too much.
