Quantum Hoops is a fascinating documentary about the life and times of the Cal Tech men’s basketball team; a team that hasn’t won a game in over 21 years.

While ranking as one of the top five educational institutions in the world, Cal Tech basketball has existed on the other end of the spectrum for much of its 93 years of existence. Still, in that same time, former players have gone on to make some of the most important human advancements of the 20th century.

Now, in the final weeks of the 2006 season, the Beavers, who field more valedictorians than players with high school basketball experience, have one last shot at winning their first conference game since 1985.

The games are as stressful to watch as they are fun, and an overtime nail biter highlights this fantastic documentary about true amateurs who put their schooling above athletics. Enjoy this film, not for its basketball, but for the history of the university and the players that find passion and escape in a game that no one thinks they deserve to play.
