What can you say about this beloved late-’60s classic, besides that it’s one of the most all around enjoyable movies ever made?

Paul Newman has never been better in his role as the devil-may-care rebel sentenced to a chain gang for cutting the heads off parking meters. Along the way we get to know a cast of misfits and convicts who do battle with the tyrannical guards.

Directed by the underrated Stuart Rosenberg, this funny, dramatic and just plain entertaining film is a reminder that they just don’t make ’em like they used to. This edition features a newly restored transfer, commentary by historian/Newman biographer Eric Lax and a making of documentary.
