Chris Marker, master of the documentary as poem, teams with Yannick Bellon for this film about French photographer Denise Bellon.

The film is made up almost entirely of Bellon’s images, which capture France in the years leading up to WWII – from the rise of the Surrealist movement to the African colonies joining the French forces, to the Nazi occupation of France. It’s a hypnotic look at an artist and the milieu in which she worked.
