Premiering in 1982, this sitcom, which launched Michael J. Fox to stardom, centered on an Ohio family, the Keatons – two former hippie activists and their three children. Fox quickly stole the show as Alex, the Reaganite high schooler perpetually wearing a tie.

The show was still in its prime in its fourth season just as Back to the Future was released. In this season, Alex is a college sophomore and starts dating Ellen (Fox’s future wife, Tracy Pollan), while Mallory (Justine Bateman) starts dating Nick, a junkyard sculptor.

From a bygone era of television, this sitcom mixed heartwarming real-life family issues with some pretty solid comedy writing. Also included is the movie of the week “Family Ties Vacation” and a gag reel.
