Lespa at Sofitel

8555 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles

Deluxe, redefined for the 21st century, LeSpa at Sofitel L.A. transforms the spa experience into something sleek and modern.

Centrally located in the shadow of the Beverly Center, LeSpa gets everything right, down to the tiniest detail. A soothing plum color and a cozy lavender scent permeate the space complimented by organic sculptures that look like a cross between Alexander Calder and Andrew Goldsworthy.

The usual amenities: steam room, showers and luxe robes, augmented with original touches, like a complimentary foot soak and peppermint tea, transport me over the rainbow before my official treatment even begins.

Originally, I plan to work out in their tricked-out gym, to be followed by a sports massage. However, felled by a bout of holiday revelry (a.k.a. hangover), my genius massage therapist quickly reassesses the situation and proposes a more traditional and relaxing treatment.

Within minutes, I find myself ensconced in the world’s softest sheets, (by comfy – I swear the thread count is at least 800) while being rubbed with Decleor’s soothing and minty Circulagel, my once-pounding head a faint memory as my neck and shoulders are kneaded into submission. Afterward, I jump in the shower to find, not only a delightful rain shower cascading from above, but also rows of jets on both sides drowning out any leftover kinks.

LeSpa also sports a NanoSpa, “the only one in the U.S.,” according to the manager, Korey Keith, who explains: “Immersing in this bath allows skin to absorb oxygen which permeates into the cells and detoxifies from within.”

Further luxury incarnate can be found in the products LeSpa carries from two exclusive French lines, Decleor and Carita that, Keith points out, “few other spas carry in this country.”

Facials, body scrubs, manicures and pedicures are also available as well as use of the aforementioned gym. Some of the services, like the liquid romance, sound like just the ticket to start the New Year on a high note.
