Terribly Happy is a dark and intriguing tale that mirrors the bleak and hostile landscape that is the Danish countryside. The film follows Robert (Jakob Cedergren), a big city police officer, as he takes over as town marshal in rural Denmark.

He soon gets mixed up with Ingerlise Buhl (Lene Maria Christensen), a woman in an abusive marriage, who claims that people often disappear suspiciously. But the town’s mysterious residents are determined to do things their own way, even if it’s not exactly by the books.

Based on real events (The problem family in the film actually existed, and their first names are left intact.), the film is a deep and sometimes disturbing look into the search for a sense of belonging and, when faced with a new set of morals and values, whether you’d choose to adapt or disappear.
