On Monday, the Pac-12 announced that an initiative to help improve both the health and safety of student-athletes will begin in the 2013-2014 academic year. In the official release statement, Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott said that the “athletic departments and coaches have been very progressive in this area and are deeply committed to advancing these efforts.” Elements of the Student-Athlete Health and Well-Being Initiative include a state-of-the-art research program, a Head Trauma Task Force and a Football Contact Reduction plan.
