Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi summer blockbuster, depicts a futuristic world where humans must operate gigantic robots to battle nightmarish monsters from alternate realities in order to thwart humanity’s doom.

In conjunction with the film, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have organized beach cleanups promoting the film, while attempting to prevent humanity’s more feasible doom: a decaying environment.

The first 100 participants at each of the beach cleanups will receive two tickets to see Pacific Rim in Real 3D on opening weekend! Also, the lucky first comers will be given an exclusive Pacific Rim T-shirt constructed entirely of recycled materials. In order to make sure that the effort is successful, Warner Bros. will be providing useful cleaning materials.

The cleanups are taking place on Thursday, July 11 at the following beaches along the Pacific Northwest:

-Los Angeles -- Santa Monica Pier (PCH & Colorado Avenues) from 8:00 a.m. -- 10:00 a.m.

-Orange County -- Huntington State Beach (PCH & Brookhurst Street) from 8:00 a.m. -- 10:00 a.m.

-Santa Barbara -- East Beach (Stearn's Wharf/ Mission Creek Lagoon) from 8:00 a.m. -- 10:00 a.m.

About Pacific Rim:

With Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro switches gears from his mind-bending and highly acclaimed foreign film, Pan’s Labyrinth. The luridly fantastic monsters may be similar, but Pacific Rim is an action-adventure film fit for the season of summer blockbusters.

In the film, these malevolent mammoths have spawned from an undersea portal to alternate dimensions. Of course, these cosmic trespassers, called Kaiju, want nothing more than to destroy Earth and its inhabitants. The creatures' size (and power) is reminiscent of Godzilla; however, there is a whole army of these Kaiju. Humanity’s innate will for survival makes the easy route of submission not an option. Instead, they choose to fight fire with fire, or shall we say, monster with monster.

The humans create gigantic robots to combat the colossal beasts. Two people operate the robots, dubbed Jaegers, by a nuero-connection called “The Bridge.” But despite the development of the Jaegers, the Kaiju are still far too powerful.

As a last resort, two unlikely heroes are recruited to operate a supposedly deficient Jaeger: a washed-up pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and a rash trainee (Rinko Kikuchi). They are the two last hopes for humanity.

Whether the defective duo save the day or not is for you to find out in the theaters. Expect Pacific Rim to be full of epic brawls between gargantuan giants, satisfying your summer craving for action at the movies.
